The Dream Comes True

The center was proposed in the early beginning of the millennium, started to host the FMOH training workshops and meetings in addition regular clinical training on important aspects like life support courses and introductory course for the internal ship of house men.


The activities of the CPD extended to the states to train the cadres in the roots of the states as a solution to the travel and accommodation of the trainee in Khartoum state.


During the past five years and based on a five-year Strategic Plan of the Continuing Professional Development Directorate from 2006-2010, this had focused on:


•  Strengthening the system of human resource development and implementation of CPDD policies at federal and state level.

•  Improving skills of health professionals working in health sector.

•  Decentralization by establishing CPD centers at state level.


The CPDD had:


•  One of the most important achievements was development of the structure of CPD center to CPD directorate.

•  The policy has been updated as continuing professional development established in 2005, and then formed a committee to review the draft and approve it.

•  Develop a coordination between the CPDD and the national programs, to implement the training activities through CPDD and to achiev several objectives including:


- The implementation of integrated training between different programs, which helps to make best use of resources, & train the largest number of cadres.

- Improve the quality of training by subordinating the curriculum review and development, in addition to the training of trainers in skills training.

-The ability to limit the trainees and provide information about them through the database program, which follows the administration of each trainee.

-Take advantage of the possibilities available at the National Center and other centers (such as: Video conference) to reach the goals set.


•  To achieve this, it is done in several stages:


-  Presented a proposal on Undersecretary Council were cleared and then issued a decision to do it.

-  Formed a committee to develop a mechanism of implementation and follow-up performance, the Committee held several meetings.

-  Set a regulation to coordinate the implementation of training for national programs through the CPDD.

-  Training for trainers course in (treatment of conditions for malaria programs, AIDS, and TB) with (11) states, in order to configure the training team in each state includes a representative from each of the three programs in addition to the Director of the CPD of the state.

-  Implementation of (123) training courses trained (3552) trainees during last year.

 

•  Elaboration of a manual for the CPD at state level and has been approved.

•  Developed accreditation system, which include standards for the accreditation (training material, instructor, training center, the certificate issued by the center).

•  Department approved continuing professional development as an executive of the Sudan Medical Council Regulation to include medical specialists, and it formed 21 of the Committees  in various disciplines for developing curricula for continuous training of specialists, 17 curricula were accredited.

•   Development of the Sudan Resuscitation Council.

•   Promote a culture of continuing professional development:


To promote a culture of CPD of great importance, therefore, devoted a department and placed on her head a doctor and popular media is dr.Hamza Awadallah, which connect the directorate with the press, radio and television, from the activities of coordination as follow:


- The first Journal of continuing professional development.

-  Radio and Television interviews.

-  Press coverage in newspapers.

-  Media Forum.

-  Press conference.


•  Decentralization of training:


       The most important directorate objectives that seek to achieve is to provide training for all staff working in the health sector over the working life without interruption, and to achieve this goal it was necessary to develop a vision for decentralized implementation, on a two-tier States first, then hospitals within each state.


States:


Been established (5) CPD centers at state level in 2006, and has been configured (9) other centers during 2009, bringing the number of centers for the fifteen state center during last year by adding two centers.


Infrastructure:


Buildings:  maintenance and rehabilitation CPD Center at White Nile State, which cost $ (71,500 pounds).

-  Provision of computing  and  electronic equipment for (10) states.


Human resources:


-  The completion of the organizational structure for (7) states.

-  Training staff of the CPD centers at state level by attachment training, through training and practice at the National CPD Center, have been trained cadres of states (Northern, River Nile, and South Kordofan).

-  Training of trainers of (64) coach in various fields, and several states.

-  Implemented (67) training courses in all States which trained (2265).

-  Implemented several training programs via video conference.


A (21) supervisory visit done for (12) state, and many of these visits were integrated with the participation of the Academy of Health Sciences and the Department of Nursing and Midwifery.

 

Linked to the National CPD Center with five states (Northern, River Nile, Blue Nile, Gedaref, Gazera) by service video conference -Work is currently underway to link the rest of the States - were set up through it several courses.


Hospitals:


The directorate has also initiated the establishment of centers to include hospitals (12) center in Khartoum between the hospital and federal statal, and (13) hospital in the different states.


•  Since 2006 where four committees were developed to lay career pathway for specialties of internal medicine, and child health, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, and then in 2008 formed a committee for pharmacy. During last year (21) Committees to develop curricula for ongoing training in different areas for specialties, and 17 were developed and approved.


There is a database of trainees enable directorate to know which trainees received training or even mandates and include information provided by the database (name, job title, phone number, workplace, e-mail, and courses in which they participated), has been newly updated database of the trainees, and create a database for trainers.


Website was launched to the CPDD in March last year, the site includes information on the directorate, CPD Centre, sessions held, the schedule, and the trainees may also register through this website. Is determined by M&E unit and IT department to renew the information immediately, as any added effectiveness made by CPDD or session hosted by the CPD Centre.

The CPDD strategic plan for the next five years from 2011-2015 concentrate on:


•  Activation of  CPD system, through;


-  Update the national CPD policy.

-  Review the accreditation system.

-  Strengthening the partnerships with relevant sectors and promote CPD culture.

-  Issuance of career pathway for all employees in the health sector.


•  Strengthening the capacity of CPD center at federal and state level, through provide;


-  Organization structure.

-  Infrastructure (Halls, Skills lab).

- Trainers.


• Improve the skills of health professional working in health sector, through;


-  Developing database of all employees in the health sector, and determined the training need assessment.

-  Developing a career pathway for all health professionals and designing the syllabus.

-  Training of trainers for each curriculum approved.

-  Accredited each curricula and each instructor.

-  Reduce the training gap.
